Chilean Blazing Saddles RDRL x Chilean Cass RDRL
For the last few years we have been trying to find an outcross male with a good disposition, structure and solid movement. We also like an athletic animal with medium wool so we can drive and pack with them too! A tall order and something that has become near impossible to locate.
Ken and Celia Austin of Rain Dance Ranch Llamas have been longtime friends of ours and because Niki showed for them for years, she knows many of their lines well. Specifically, she actually handled and showed many of the animals in Valparaiso's pedigree. The Austin's have always had easy going llamas with nice dispositions and great structure. They also have a consistent silky fine fiber that they are well known for. When we went to walk their herd to see what might be a fit for our program, the last pasture had a beautiful paint who had great movement and balance. Upon further investigation, this llama had not only great conformation, he was full Chilean making him a total outcross for our woolly females.
Chilean Okidoki and Miss Chi Chi's Leona were always two of our very favorite females in the Rain Dance herd. Okidoki at age 21 still looks fabulous and great. Leona was a friendly girl who loved a good butt scratch. Chileno El Toro was a big sweetheart too and Niki helped fit and show him in 2003 when he won ALSA Nationals. Confucius offspring were always some of RDRL Farm's easiest and best animals in the showring. Fino Chilean Rosario is known for having kids with fine fiber and personality. SWL Alexis was a stellar producer that had some really nice halter champion offspring. Ohkay was part of the Hinterland New Zealand Chilean importation and ended up being later bought by Ken and Celia for their own breeding herd. Suffice to say, there are a lot of good and proven llamas in this pedigree.
As suspected, Valparaiso has a kind disposition to match his good looks. At barely 9 months of our owning him, Val passed Complex and Predictable in his Partners Evaluation with two handlers. His fiber is extra silky too! We have been delighted so far with his overall willingness to try new things and routine work to be done on him with no fuss. This is so typical of the RDRL herd and their llamas they produce.
At the age of six, Val walked into the ring of his first show and walked away with not only double Grand Champion Silky Male, but he also earned a Best of Show Male title. Not bad for a llama that six months prior was sitting in a pasture.
Valparaiso's pedigree is a who's who of proven Chilean lines and halter/national champions. Fino Chilean Rosario, Prime Plus One, Papa Noel, Chilean Okidoki, Miss Chi Chi's Leon, Confucius, Don Juan Quixote, Senior Wenses, Chile Bronsky 103 (NZ Chilean), Chileano El Toro, Chilean Black Jack, Dulcenea, Chilean Leroy Brown, Jalapena #131, PPF Paco Red, DDL Dream Catcher, Top Flight, Gabriela, RAR Madre Chica, Flame, Aflame & Carmana.

Meaning of the Name: Valparaíso (/ˌvælpəˈraɪzoʊ, -soʊ/; Spanish: [balpaɾaˈiso]) is a major city, commune, seaport, naval base, and educational centre in the Valparaíso Region, Chile. Valparaíso played an important geopolitical role in the second half of the 19th century when it served as a major stopover for ships traveling between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans by crossing the Straits of Magellan. Valparaíso experienced rapid growth during its golden age, as a magnet for European immigrants, when the city was known by international sailors as "Little San Francisco" and "The Jewel of the Pacific".[3] Notable inheritances from its golden age include Latin America's oldest stock exchange, the continent's first volunteer fire department, Chile's first public library, and the oldest Spanish language newspaper in continuous publication in the world, El Mercurio de Valparaíso. In 2003, the historic quarter of Valparaíso was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
